Facts-Idukki wildlife sanctury

Monsoon : June - November
Rainfall : 2200 Mm. 40 kms from Thodupuzha town. Spread over the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district, the sanctuary was formed in 1976. The Idukki arch dam, the first major hydroelectric project in Kerala, is situated here. The 33 sq.km scenic lake around the santruary - the Idukki reservoir - is formed by the three dams Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamavu.

Vegetation :
Tropical Dense Evergreen Forest : White Pine, Kuntherekka Pine, Punnappa, Bhadraksham, Palai, Vediplavu, Maravuri, Vayana Etc.

Wildlife Population :
Reptiles - Elephant, Deer , Bear, Leopard Tiger, Wild Pig Etc.
Mammals - Cobra, Viper, Python, Rat Snake, Etc.
Reptiles - Hornbill, Kingfisher, Woodpecker.

Begining of a new Season!

MAY 9-2007--->it was a nice morning.i wake up at about 5’am.then i rang a bell to Kiran’s house.Then as i tod him earlier ,he waited for me near his house.We started our journey towards the destination which is about 60km from our place.We are riding on my Suzuki fiero,the partner who always helps me a lot.Our target is to reach the place by 10 ‘.I didnt mention the place yet,then lets point towards that.My plan is to experince the idukki wildlife sanctury on 9th and periyar tiger reserve on 10th.Since there is no facilties avail for the tourist to explore the wildlife in idukki wildlife sanctury tourists are always stay away from this magical place.Our plan is to access the area from Uluppuni which is about 20-25km from vagamon.From vagamon onwards road becomes very narrow and very bad condition.Once you drive through that place ,you will become a good driver anywhere in the world.We reached there by 11o clock.,the reserve area is under kappakkanam forest division.Anyway there is no forest office near by.There is a river which separates the forests from the mail land,we can experince the sound and smell of the forest eveywhere,a typical tropical rain forest.We saw some people nearby collecting woods from the forest,they asked about our intrusion.We replied,we just want see the forest.Then we enquired about the ways through the forest.One of them told us there is pack of seven elephants near that area.But we didnt care his words.We trek through the forest about 3 hours,but it was very disapointing,because we expected to see a lot other than usual red whiskered bulbul,drongos,wood peckers...we wind up our program by the evening and return back to home...Anyway this journey was a begining of a new season..!!

A brief introduction!!

MAY 5--2007---->I came back to my sweet home after a long interval,i just got one month study holidays." I thought everyone is like me,not studing anything untill the day before exams,It just become my habit.Some what luckily,i escaped from supplies yet.May be i will get it soon because i know that i really deserve it.Here onwards i donnt want put any materialistic things of my life .May for some people,it will be boring.But i think its my responsiblity to introduce myself for the people who are not familiar with me.My name is Jyothish Nelson,my home town is pala in kottayam[dist].Now i am doing my B.tech in Electronics&Communication and i am staying with my friends near our prestigious model engineering college.But actually i donnt have interest in that field.Its worst of my decision,ie choose electronics.I got damn with the subject,anyway i thank god for giving me interest in computer domain.Now,i aspire to be good software engineer& i will be happy if i get a job in internet domain,only because i love doing designing/scripting kind of things.Above all,what i really want earn in mylife is to become a good wildlife conservationist/naturalist.i think,when i was in 9th std i got a chance to trek into idukki wild life sanctury,which just about 40km from my home,I can never forget that day, It may be the day which put my interest to wildlife&nature.But i had to face more difficulties at that time.Before 2005,i really struggle to find the way to understand nature,Now,the things of obstruction little bit changed.we are in the formation of a Nature Club,soon it will be affiliated with wwf and some private conservation organizations.I am very proud to invite everybody to join with us to protect our mother nature.But anyway i never want those people who donnt care about nature and its inhabitants.Many of the people around often found interested in join such clubs&but they are doing nothing otherthan travelling and chilling out with friends.Now i have good friends in wildlife domain too.They are always helpful whatever may be the subject.What i feel and what i want to tell you is “Preservation of forests &wildlife is a resposiblity every human not only has to mother earth but to his own survival”,.!!!
